Color Statement
Elliott Block offers a selection of standard and special order integral colors. Your representative can offer specific information and samples to assist in color specifications.Concrete masonry units manufactured by Elliott Block are of the highest quality and uniformity available. However, variations may occur in color and shade, in natural gray or integral color, as result of the color ranges in raw materials– over which, we have no control. A statement of color, then refers to a range of color. It should also be noted that exact color duplication from run to run cannot be guaranteed.
Block Density and Color
Color will be affected by differences in weight (density) or strength. A weight classification will require a specific aggregate mix, which will create its own natural gray and have an effect on any coloring agent. For example, a color in mediumweight will differ somewhat from the same color in lightweight. Similarly, High-Stress units have a different mix design; as result, its color will not be exactly the same as units of like weight or color designation. Please contact your Elliott Block representative should the weight or strength to be specified differs from that indicated on a given sample.
Color Matching and Alternatives
Occasionally it may be desired that a new construction match an existing wall or structure, thus dictating the color of new CMU to match that of existing CMU. This circumstance raises a host of considerations. One is the age and extent of weathering of the "old" CMU. Another is the possible differences in aggregate from the time of its manufacture and aggregate currently used. How the CMU ages is also another consideration; a good match at construction may not last as the "new" CMU weathers.We strongly suggest that specifications for such a project avoid the simplicity of the "match existing" requirement. Instead, we recommend consulting with your Elliott Block representative to determine the availability and/or feasibility of current materials to reasonably match the existing wall and whether the best solution would be integral color or natural gray with an appropriate stain. It is advantageous for all parties if this is specified in advance of the masonry bid to avoid last minute scrambling for suitable materials.
