Finishes and Basic Block Types
Types of Finishes 
We manufacture three different finishes or textures: Precision (smooth), Split face (rough; exposed aggregate), and Slump (adobe-like). Variations of textures are inherent in concrete block and help create the warmth and character of a CMU wall. Please refer to the product sections for specific information.
Basic Shapes of Concrete Block CMU are either "solid" or "hollow." A solid unit is defined by being solid for 75% or more of the net area of the CMU. All others are hollow units. Hollow units represent the most common shape used in the greatest number of structural applications. The basic shapes shown below are common to hollow blocks in various sizes. Many combinations of features may be added to some units for design effects, including vertical scores, flutes, and projections.

Standard ItemsItems referred to as standard or stock units and/or colors are normally available, meaning such units are subject to occasional fluctuations in inventory levels which may affect availability from time to time. Status of a unit or color as a standard item is subject to change without notice. Please check with your representative for current information.
Special Order Items Certain configurations or colors are available only on a special order basis. Such units listed in this catalog are clearly identified as "special order only."
When special order units are desired it is imperative an Elliott Block representative be consulted. Though the variety of configurations and colors available by special order offers tremendous design variety, manufacturing and scheduling constraints may impose limitations. Special orders are subject to minimum quantities and mold change charges. (A mold change charge defrays a portion of the cost of mold setups and machine down-time while molds are changed for special order configurations and/or the materials batching/handling system is cleaned of special order color(s).)
Anytime a special order unit is required, the construction (and contract) schedule must reflect sufficient lead time for ordering, manufacture, and cure.
Elliott Block will do what it can to minimize the effects of insufficient lead time. However, job schedules may be adversely affected, or readily available units may have to be substituted.
